So we're at the post office the other day and I'm attempting to mail a couple packages. No easy feat with Miss Nicole tagging along. She truly is living up to her Curious George moniker. I'm in the middle of the transaction with the mail clerk and I look over to see a 7-foot cardboard Star Wars display tumbling to the ground. Of course, it was our friend, Nicky George, who caused the toppling of R2-D2 , Darth Vadar, C-3PO and the like. I'm completely mortified and I rush over to try and undo the damage. Unfortunately, whatever sort of balance this unwieldy display possessed has now vanished at the hands of our little magician, Nicole the Amazing Trouble Maker Extraordinaire. I'm frantically trying to make the darned display stand up while at least a dozen people wait in line watching me. I've become the entertainment for the bored post office patrons. I know they're thinking Can't she control that child? So embarrassing!
Anyway, I somehow manage to lean the display against the wall and it precariously balances there. I return to the counter, expecting the mail clerk to be angry for messing with USPS property, but he has a bemused expression on his face. He says in a surprisingly hopeful tone Do you think the display's broken?
Oh, I don't know. I'm sure it can be fixed, I say with little conviction. It sure seems broken to me, but at this point I just want to get out of the place. He goes on to tell me that there are several Star Wars fans just chomping at the bit to bring this display home with them so if it's broken, the display is up for grabs. They've even written their names on the back! Now I feel better. Nicole's mischievious act is going to make one of the legions of Star Wars fans a happy person. Oh, and if you're wondering why the US Post Office has Star Wars displays, it's because they're going to be releasing Star Wars stamps. They've even transformed some of the blue collection boxes to look like R2-D2 as a promotion for the new stamps.
May the force be with you.
