Well, we're getting close to moving into the new house. It can't come too soon for us. Living in temporary housing is just no way to live. It's glorified camping. My friend, Jennifer McNabb, described her temporary dwelling as "The Hole." Put another four-letter word in front of that and that's how I'd describe where we're living now. And then we go to check on "New House!" and it's like
Shangri La to a man lost in the desert. I went to look at the new house by myself last week, unencumbered by six little hands grabbing at my legs. It felt so peaceful there, almost holy. Such a contrast to the cramped, transitional feel of the rental.
Speaking of holy, Nicole has christened those little roll-up bug's "Holy Polys." It seems like everyone has their own name for these bugs. As kids, we called them "Roly Polys" or "Sal Bugs."
Barton called them "Potato Bugs. " To our Brazilian nanny, they're "Little Armadillo's." Paul Simon even mentions Roly Poly in his song "You Can Call Me Al:"
A man walks down the street,
He says, Why am I short of attention?
Got a short little span of attention,
And whoa, my nights are so long!
Where's my wife and family?
What if I die here?
Who'll be my role-model?
Now that my role-model is ....
Gone ...... gone,
He ducked back down the alley,
With some roly-poly, little bat-faced girl.
But, I digress. We were talking about bugs*, not rotund girls. Anyway, Nicole loves her Holy Poly's. We were at the park and she found one. It immediately curled up into a protective ball, but that didn't dissuade Nicole. After I made her put him down, she spent the rest of our park time obsessively digging in the dirt in search of these "holy" little critters.
In the meantime, Dane was treking to the far corners of the park. Determined to leave no stone unturned, he explored every nook and cranny of the park grounds. He is quite the adventurous sort, whereas Logie is more content to toddle repeatedly up and down the steps of the play structure.
*If anyone knows the real name of those bugs, please let me know.

Nicky has fun at the pool
Dane gets his feet wet
just pure cuteness!
Nicole loves her new "Princess College Fund" piggy bank. Thanks Grandma O & Grandpa Joe! (She's already got her heart set on Harvard ... that is, Daddy is going to gently nudge her to an East Coast school.)
